How Sienna Spiro Gets Her ‘Big’ 1960s-Inspired Eyes

The “Die on This Hill” singer shares her beauty secrets with Vogue.

The Story

“Mono No Aware” is Sienna Spiro’s favorite track from Visitors, her just-launched album. While sharing her Beauty Secrets with Vogue, the 20-year-old explains that the bittersweet ballad was inspired by a Japanese phrase that means, essentially, everything beautiful is temporary. “When I found that, it was something I really connected to, because the whole album is about this fear of impermanence I had,” Spiro says.

It should be noted, though, that the fear doesn’t apply to temporary lashes. While creating her signature 1960s-inspired makeup look, Spiro flashes a conspiratorial grin. “A lot of people actually ask me about this,” she says, holding up the $10 answer to her most frequently asked beauty question.“Go on Amazon and look up fairy lashes,” she instructs. Then follow these steps: Spiro adds a touch of Duo glue to the back of the lashes, then uses tweezers to affix the 16mm falsies to the center of each eye. The larger lashes come next. “I use 18mm, the biggest one, because I love drama,” she sings, attaching the statement lashes to the outer corners of each eye. Fluttery accoutrements intact, the London native notes: “These make your eyes look big, because they’re super spiky.”

Speaking of big, Spiro doesn’t hold back with eyeliner. After creating the outline of a bold cat eye with Charlotte Tilbury’s Feline Flick, the “Die on This Hill” singer reinforces it with Chanel’s liquid liner. “It just needs to be locked in, last through sweat and tears, and be super dark,” she explains. The liner’s not done yet: Spiro tight-lines with Chanel’s waterproof pencil on her upper lids and uses Make Up For Ever’s white eyeliner on the waterline of her lower lids. “This was inspired by Twiggy,” she says. “I love the way her eyes look.”

Despite her love of all things throwback, the singer uses a modern approach to clothes shopping. “I look up [stores] on TikTok,” she says, as she mimes typing best vintage shops in Tennessee. “Never been to Tennessee,” she adds, “but that’s what I would do if I did go to Tennessee.” And despite the southern humidity, her eyeliner would surely stay intact.
