Inside Coco Jones and Donovan Mitchell’s New York State Wedding

NBA player Donovan Mitchell first saw actress and singer Coco Jones two years before they met. “I exclusively previewed her show Bel-Air to make my Adidas D.O.N. Issue #3 “Prep School” shoes in collaboration with [the series],” Donovan tells Vogue. Finally, in 2023, the two finally connected face-to-face at Michael Rubin’s Fourth of July White party. Clearly, there was a spark, and their relationship grew over the next few years. In July 2025, Donovan surprised Coco with a proposal while they were on vacation together. The singer said “yes” and began wearing a stunning cushion-cut diamond on her ring finger.

The newly engaged pair decided to tie the knot on August 1, 2026, at a private residence in New York State. Kristi Lee of Details Details Co. proved to be the perfect choice to execute their vision and help the process go smoothly. “Planning was easier than I imagined,” says Coco of the journey. “My planner handled everything.”

One piece of the wedding puzzle the groom took on was the menu for the big day. “Donovan is Panamanian, and I’m from the South, so he had a great idea of food stations honoring our cultures and the foods we loved growing up,” notes Coco. “Marcia Selden Catering & Events brought that vision to life in the best way possible, checking with us about specific recipes that our families grew up with, bringing amazing ideas to the table to expand on our vision—and of course, everything tasted fantastic!”

Meanwhile, Coco focused her energy on crafting the perfect wardrobe for the wedding weekend, prioritizing working with Black designers for her looks. “It felt amazing to have so many different cultures involved in this wedding! I felt so seen, supported, and understood throughout this whole process,” says the bride. Coco started the process by trying on a few classic bridal silhouettes to see what she gravitated towards. “Once I found the silhouettes that I liked, I wanted to intentionally collaborate with designers who I felt would personally be excited for me and for our wedding,” she says. “I did the research myself, Googling [and] DMing different companies based on their vision for their brands aligning with my vision for mine.” In those initial meetings, “it was all about chemistry,” notes Coco.

When Coco was connected with Off-White’s creative director IB Kamara and director of VIP and special projects Simon Lee, it felt like a perfect match on both sides. “From our very first conversation, Coco had such a strong sense of who she wanted to be on her wedding day,” says Lee. “She came to us with a clear vision, but also with an openness to explore and create together, which made the process incredibly special.”

The bride notes she was also taken in by the team’s kindness and talent. “Truthfully, after a couple of conversations, they nailed the sketches, surprised me with even more intentional details that I had no idea were even a possibility, and we were off to the races to get the dress into production!” Coco says

The final product was a beautiful off-the-shoulder gown with a subtle sweetheart neckline, draping at the hip, and a sweeping train. “I remember Simon and I being so emotional at the fitting, crying our eyes out,” shares Coco. “They made the moment feel surreal through the clothing.”

Off-White also outfitted the groom for the wedding day, crafting a white suit to wear down the aisle. “Our fabrics were intentionally similar,” says the bride. “We both had custom embroidery of our initials on our looks plus one of our new favorite Bible verses: ‘Song of Solomon 6:3.’ The Off-White team dressed us in unity before we literally became one!”

For her second look of the night, Coco wore a gown by Esé Azénabor featuring a fitted skirt and a sparkling bodice. “I sent her a few inspo pics, and she sent me an entire video of all the different ways she can make my vision come to life,” remembers Coco. “I was blown away.” The designer’s drive was also a huge pull for the bride to collaborate with her. “What I loved about her was that she's such a boss,” the bride says of Azénabor. “I remember her bringing her cute little son into the fittings, not playing around with making sure everything was perfect, and a great team of talented women around her!” Once the dress was complete, Coco knew it was the perfect fit. “Seeing the dress in person left me speechless,” she says. “I’m a glitter fanatic when I’m on stage, and I felt like a superstar in my reception dress.”

For her rehearsal dinner and after-party looks, Coco worked with Charles C. Dieujuste, the founder of bridal brand Scorcésa. “What drew me to him was his love of his heritage and his nontraditional dresses,” she says. “He seemed innovative, and I felt we could do something really dope together! I fell in love with his personality. He’s super bubbly, positive, and hard-working.” For her after-party mini, the priority was, quite simply, to create a snatched waist. “Boy oh boy, did we nail it,” she laughs.

To accessorize her looks, Coco reached out to her longtime collaborator Brandon Blackwood to create shoes and purses for all her ensembles. “The crazy thing is he’s been around for so many of my high moments that I needed him to be involved in this personal one,” the singer says. “He and his team were immediately about it! We had one call, they sent sketches, and knew exactly what I meant. They nailed everything, and I couldn’t have asked for better accessories.”

The final creative behind the day’s fashion? The bride herself. While she found a dress style she loved for her six bridesmaids, the company warned Coco the fabrics might not be the exact same color. “Me—the Capricorn—loved the style and I was going to find a way to make them all work,” she says. “So I personally researched the appropriate dye and hand-dyed each dress myself. Yes, you read that right!” While she was initially hoping to have an outside company dye the gowns, they were only able to do a high-volume order. “There was one option left: DIY,” Coco says. “To be honest, I kind of liked it. It made me feel like a real regular girl handling her wedding all by herself, and they actually came out amazing. To my bridesmaids, if you’re reading this… surprise!”

The wedding weekend kicked off on Friday night with a rehearsal dinner followed by a welcome party. The bride jokes that everyone was so excited to celebrate that the party almost took them out. “I actually think that was great because people were able to let loose, take it too far, and then be a little too hungover to do the same thing at our wedding the next day,” she laughs. “That was God protecting everybody now that I’m looking back at it.”

The couple spent the morning getting ready with their respective wedding parties before heading down the aisle in a draped tent. As someone who has been married before on screen, the bride says she kept having to remind herself everything was real as she exchanged vows. “It seriously looked like a dream,” Coco says. “Kristi brought my vision to life in a way that almost felt like it was not attached to reality. I was too stunned to speak… seriously.”

Once the couple said “I do,” the newlyweds walked down the aisle and headed off for a moment together alone. “After the ceremony, Donovan and I sat in a room and basically cheered for five minutes,” remembers the bride. “We had to hurry up and prep for our reception looks and take final pictures. Then it was time to really, really party.”

After their grand entrances, the couple mingled with their guests before sitting down for dinner and speeches. When asked to describe the reception, Coco says, “Honestly, the only word I have for you: ‘dance.’ DJ Dimy brought that heat, and everybody was all the way turned up!” A surprise performance by musical artist Blxst also brought up the energy during the night.

Coco made her final outfit changes as the after-hours party began. The groom planned this portion of the night. “He killed it! Another great DJ, some late-night bites, and truly a second wind,” says the bride. “I could not believe how long we had been dancing at that point! I know I burned a great amount of calories.”

Looking back on the wedding day, Coco expresses her gratitude for all the photos and videos to help her relive those special moments. “The icing on the entire cake is I’m married to my best friend! That feeling is priceless.”
