Maisie Williams and Joey King’s Co-Star Style Is Practically Magic

Paging all ’90s kids: If you’re anything like us, the anticipation for Practical Magic 2 is at an all-time high. The witchy sequel—starring original cast members Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, and newcomers Joey King and Maisie Williams—will hit theaters on September 11. Until then, we will do our best to cast an amateur spell in the hopes of it arriving any sooner.

In anticipation of the buzzy release, promo for the film has already begun this month. All week long in New York, Williams and King—who are both co-stars and real-life friends—made their press rounds for the movie in coordinating fashion. Their outfits? Precisely what co-star dressing should be all about: They’ve been embracing looks that are cohesive and in-sync, yet totally individual and reflective of their own personal styles. You could even say their press tour wardrobe is…practically magic.

Let’s take a look at each star’s unique approach to fashion. Joey King, for one, has been taking witchy cues from her film with outfits that revolve around black or white lace. She emerged from the Hotel Chelsea wearing a black Alessandra Rich lace gown, complete with a bowed neckline and sheer bodice and skirt. She has also worn pieces such as a burgundy Mark Gong top with a black transparent skirt. Precisely the kind of outfits you’d expect her character (Sandra Bullock’s daughter) to wear in the film. Perfect—no notes.

Maisie Williams, meanwhile, has been leaning a dash more trendy and avant-garde with her looks. Think: Less witchy, more New York fashion It girl. She’s worn statement looks like an asymmetric Maison Margiela knit top, paired with a blush-pink skirt and little beaded belt. Or there was the polka-dotted Marni top and groovy cream floral skirt, worn to this weekend’s Teen Vogue Fest. (The two stars engaged in an on-stage conversation with Vogue’s very own Chloe Malle.)

So often, co-stars on a whirlwind press tour can dress in one of two ways. They either go super matchy-matchy, or they look so disconnected that you’d never guess they were promoting the same project. But both King and Williams clearly are nailing the approach. They are delivering one fashion hit after another without losing either of their identities. And we’ve still got over a month of appearances left before the movie debuts.

The question now is: Will Bullock and Kidman take a cue from their book, and also do similar-but-different fashions once they start hitting the red carpets? We hope so—it’s working for us! Although, we also wouldn’t mind a totally-matching full-on method dressing moment from them, too.
