Margo Price Surprise-Releases ‘Days of Unrest’ Mixtape of Protest Songs

Hear singer's rendition of Woody Guthrie's "Deportee (Plane Crash at Los Gatos)" alongside Joan Baez and Memphis Mariachi

The Story

Before Independence Day, Margo Price has surprise-released her Days of Unrest mixtape, featuring the singer’s renditions of protest songs tackling the issues Price has championed.

Along with the mixtape’s arrival, Price has also shared the video for her rendition of Woody Guthrie’s “Deportee (Plane Crash at Los Gatos),” which she frequently performed live, including notably at the 2025 Newport Folk Festival. On this version, Price is joined by Memphis Mariachi and Joaz Baez, who famously performed “Deportee” alongside Bob Dylan on the Rolling Thunder Revue tour.

“I’ve been singing ‘Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)’ for a couple decades now, so it’s only fitting that I would cover it on Days Of Unrest,” Price said in a statement. “I first heard it when I was watching Joan Baez and Bob Dylan sing it on The Rolling Thunder Review. Joan Baez has inspired me beyond words, so to have her voice on this recording feels surreal. I’ve taken cues from her career both musically and as I’ve moved into the role of ‘cultural worker.'”

Other tracks on Days of Unrest include Price’s take on Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm,” Charlie Daniels’ “Long Haired Country Girl,” the Spanish-language farmworker folk song “De Colores,” and Blaze Foley’s “Oval Room.”

“‘Oval Room’ was written by one of my songwriting heroes from the Austin, Texas music scene, Arkansas native Blaze Foley,” Price said. “He wrote the song about another famous movie star turned politician—President Ronald Reagan—back in 1984, but it feels like it could have been written for any president, especially Trump. The system has always been set up to keep the rich in power and divide the people. Covering this song, as well as the other tracks on Days Of Unrest, is how I protest. I’m showing up at the Capitol too, I’m marching beside my brothers Representative Justin Jones & Representative Pearson, but singing this in my live shows has felt cathartic for me and I think it has for my fans too.”

In addition to the covers, Days of Unrest features the Price original “Can’t Stand Still” and the three-part instrumental “San Marcos,” which she penned with her partner Jeremy Ivey and recorded with her band the Price Tags.  Trending Stories Madonna Finds a Nonstop Groove on Her Best Album in 20 Years T.I. and Tiny Awarded $0 in Punitive Damages at OMG Girlz Trial, Jury Decides Trump Unconvincingly Bemoans That His Kids Have 'Inside Information' When They Do Business Tim Heidecker Takes Alex Jones' Seat in InfoWars Premiere: 'This Is a New Dawn'
