On Wednesday, mfpen presented its SS27 collection “Deadlines” at Copenhagen Fashion Week. Marking 10 years in business, the Danish label embraces the spirit of imperfection for a collection of “overworked” office-wear-inspired silhouettes.
Exploring “the feeling of working late nights on a project to meet a deadline,” the SS27 collection translates this theme into the garments through lightly distressed fabrics and slouchy styling. For more interesting proportions, wool shorts and skirts cut too short expose inner lining, while the sleeves of tops, including a cable-knit sweater, extend past the hands. Together, these design choices break from the formality of the workplace, placing a primacy on unkempt and lived-in detailing.
In one men’s look, a red floral jacquard shirt is worn with the chest exposed and paired with a dark gray suit, while another utilizes a white checked shirt with a loosely styled floral necktie and front-pleated trousers. Other men’s looks get subtle feminine touches from lace stockings and tassel trims, while sun-faded jersey knits and raw-cut hems add a gritty sensibility to the collection.
Accessories like glossy leather messenger bags and belts with chrome grommets bring an alternative character to the range, balancing out the more formal silhouettes. Finally, for footwear, mfpen introduces a New Balance Made in USA 992 that follows the neutral late 90s feel of the accompanying garments.
