On her latest outing, the 'Margot's Got Money Troubles' star made the case for regal fabrics and deep jewel tones in August.
Velvet has long been synonymous with crisp, autumnal evenings and holiday dinner parties. Heavy and texturally rich, it’s the ultimate fabric for cozying up in the cold. That is, unless you’re Michelle Pfeiffer.
On August 20, the star appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in a jewel-toned ensemble that made the convincing case for velvet as a summer staple. The matching set—from Fforme’s pre-spring 2027 collection—comprised the brand’s Lola top and Cori skirt, both colored in a rich raspberry hue. Like the material itself, the outfit had an opulent silhouette, with romantic balloon sleeves that cinched at the elbows and a straight-fitting skirt that flared subtly toward the bottom. To complete the vintage vibe, Pfeiffer accessorized with dangling gold earrings featuring burgundy gemstones and reddish-brown Jimmy Choo heels.
It was a fittingly regal look for the star, who has had a lot to celebrate as of late. She is currently up for two Emmys for her role in Apple TV’s Margot’s Got Money Troubles, where she stars alongside Elle Fanning. She’s also been making her mark in the beauty world in recent years, developing formulas for her fragrance brand Henry Rose, which she launched in 2019. Style-wise, things are no less exciting. With a taste for precise tailoring and high-quality fabrics, Pfeiffer has been ordained the undisputed queen of the menswear-inspired pantsuit. And still, she has an equally impressive eye for classic feminine codes. Partnering with stylist Samantha McMillen—who also works with Fanning—Pfeiffer has lately been leaning into crystal embroidery, slinky silhouettes, and silver textural fringe.
Ultimately, the 68-year-old has long been a master of dressing for herself instead of following trends or seasonal directives. Pfeiffer can’t be boxed in—and neither can her velvet.
