Warner Bros. is in early development on a Rick and Morty movie, with franchise veteran Jacob Hair in talks to direct, Deadline can confirm.

Plot details are under wraps. Dan Harmon, who co-created the Adult Swim show with Justin Roiland, has alluded to plans for a “a super badass” feature-length episode for a number of years.

Set to launch its ninth season this coming Sunday, May 24, Rick and Morty is an Emmy-winning adult animated series following genius, alcoholic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his anxious grandson Morty Smith as they split time between suburban family life and dimension-hopping adventures across an infinite multiverse.

Roiland voiced both roles before exiting the series in 2023 amid felony domestic abuse charges that were ultimately dismissed. Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden now voice Rick and Morty, respectively.

The show has been on the air since 2013, with Hair joining in 2019, directing numerous episodes and serving as supervising director.

Rick and Morty also features the voices of Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke. In addition to the feature, spinoff President Curtis, starring Keith David, is in the works for Adult Swim.
