“I didn’t want to wear anything that felt new, and I didn’t want to wear anything that was super traditional,” says Lululemon executive Nikki Neuburger of her outfits for her wedding to former Nike VP David Schriber.
When Nikki Neuburger first met David Schriber, romance was far from her mind. It was 2004, and she was interviewing for a job at Nike after graduating from Oregon State University, where she had been a Division 1 athlete. Her eye was on the job (which—spoiler!—she got), but her interviewer made an impression, too.
“I just remember David being really different than anyone else,” Nikki says. “He was referred to as kinda the mad scientist at Nike for a long time. He had crazy hair that spiked up everywhere and his wireframe glasses, and is just creative and thinks super differently,” she adds. “So he was always really interesting, but absolutely nothing like anyone I had ever dated.”
She and her coworker Ricky sat in cubicles outside of David’s office, and the three became good friends. Nikki’s younger half-sister was about the same age as David’s two children from a previous relationship, so they started spending time with the kids together, taking them on outings to Chuck E. Cheese. Inspired by the culture at Nike, they started running together, even training for the 2006 Boston Marathon. When they ran the marathon, David’s kids cheered them on with a sign that said, “Go dad and Nikki!”
After the marathon, things slowly turned romantic. One night, Nikki dropped David off at home in her stick shift car, and he put his hand on hers. “That was kind of the moment that was like, ‘Oh God, what is this?’” Nikki shares. “And I was really unsure about it.” Even so, they kept spending time together, even outside of their runs.
Another time around then, Nikki’s mother secretly talked to David and encouraged him to just “go for it.” Soon, Nikki and David started seeing each other. “We were a secret for a year, because while he wasn’t my boss, we worked really closely together,” Nikki says.
Over the next two decades, as they progressed in their lives and careers—Nikki is now the chief brand and product activation officer at Lululemon; David is a marketing consultant after years of working as senior vice president of global marketing at Nike and chief marketing and revenue officer at Masterclass—they proposed to each other multiple times. Valuing their independence (legal, financial, and otherwise), they held off on getting legally married. But things changed in February 2023, after they cared for Nikki’s father while he was ill, and went to a wedding in Bolinas that inspired them. They decided to get married in a way that felt right for them.
In September 2025, they were married in a small ceremony officiated by Nikki’s brother Graham at their friends’ restaurant in McMinnville, Oregon. Two weeks later, they celebrated their wedding with a four-day weekend party in the desert at Jacumba Hot Springs, California. When it came to planning the celebration, event planner Jesse Tombs asked them to make mood boards without showing each other. Their boards ended up having a lot in common, including Wes Anderson references (Moonrise Kingdom, for one).
“I wanted it to feel like camp meets sporty nostalgia,” Nikki says of her vision for the weekend. They divided their roughly 100 guests into Team Pink and Team Red, planning a weekend of activities that included kickball, running, drinking games, dancing, hiking, and more.
“Everything about that weekend was: How do we get all of our favorite things available to our friends?” he adds. (Among their favorite things: East Coast hazy IPAs, pimento cheese, marionberry pie, Jello shots, and music by DJ Z-Trip). They chose the location for its Twilight Zone, end-of-the-earth feeling, a sense that was only magnified when David found a local “UFO repairman” named Coyote whom he asked to park his flying saucer car at the entrance to the town as a way to greet guests. Coyote introduced them to the concept of Jacumba as the “vortex,” which they took as meaning a “place to dump your negative energy and draw your positive energy,” and which became the theme of the weekend.
When it came to their clothing for the celebration, David says: “We just really wanted to express how we felt, and wear things that we were super comfortable in, but also wear things that maybe we might not have the same kind of permission to wear anywhere else in our life.” The idea was: “Let’s just build outfits that make us super happy.”
Nikki’s vision for her looks focused on vintage. “I didn’t want to wear anything that felt new, and I didn’t want to wear anything that was super traditional,” she says. She ended up wearing multiple vintage dresses from both the LA and New York locations of Happy Isles. One was a black and white striped vintage Carolina Herrera dress that she wore for portraits alongside David, who wore a Simone Rocha outfit and a self-described “crazy hat.” This was one of David’s favorite wedding looks of Nikki’s. “I call that her Dada dress,” he says. “David looks like Amish meets Lewis Hamilton,” Nikki adds.
After a kickball game on Friday, they had a tailgate party where big-screen TVs showed the night’s pro and college sports games. For the tailgate, David wore a Bode jacket with a sports motif, and Nikki wore a vintage Dolce & Gabbana dress with a custom Letterman jacket from Settlemier’s, an Oregon family-owned business that makes real Letterman jackets for schools and has gained a following in Japanese streetwear culture. “All of those patches are real and reflective of actual things that I would have if I were in high school and wearing that jacket,” Nikki says.
For Saturday cocktails, David wore an Issey Miyake suit, Loewe shoes, and a crochet hat handmade by his daughter Ada. Nikki wore a Loewe dress, Loewe mule heels, and Swarovski Imber earring jackets.
For their Saturday night party, David wore an orange Issey Miyake suit, Crocs, and an Issey Miyake hat, while Nikki wore a vintage white and gold beaded mini dress and Simkhai wedge heels. The dress “was so crazy and over the top,” Nikki says. “It felt like a great party dress.”
One of Nikki’s favorite wedding outfit elements of David’s was a trucker hat he had custom-made online that says “It’s a long story” on it. The hat means two things, she says. “David and I are a long story. I mean, it was 20 years before we got married, and there’s been lots of loops and circles and peaks and valleys. And David is famous–or infamous, depending on who you are–for being longwinded,” Nikki says. “I don’t actually like that hat, but it’s very David.” And with that, the story goes on.
