Netflix announced 'Parasyte: -TAMIYA-,' a new live-action series written by director Yeon Sang-ho.
The series expands the 'Parasyte' universe by focusing on Reiko Tamiya’s evolution, starring Shioli Kutsuna.
Slated for a global 2027 release, the show is currently in post-production.
Netflix has officially announced Parasyte: -TAMIYA- i, an ambitious new live-action series expanding the iconic sci-fi horror universe created by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Spearheaded by acclaimed director Yeon Sang-ho (Human Vapor, Train to Busan), who will oversee planning and scriptwriting alongside Ryu Yong-jae, the project builds directly on the global success of their 2024 spin-off, Parasyte: The Grey. While The Grey expanded the franchise into South Korea, Parasyte: -TAMIYA- shifts focus back to the core lore of the original manga.
The new series is constructed as an original story centered on Ryoko Tamiya – one of the franchise’s most complex and cerebral antagonists – a highly intelligent parasite who disguised herself as a high school teacher to study human behavior, experienced pregnancy and motherhood, and continuously questioned the philosophical symbiosis between humans and parasitic organisms.
Parasyte: -TAMIYA- is currently in post-production and is slated for a global release in 2027. The series stars international actress Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2) in the titular role of Ryoko Tamiya, taking on what she has described as the most challenging performance of her career.
