The franchise lead called the project's screenplay the best script in the series' history

The film continues development under Universal Pictures as part of the long-running action saga

Universal Pictures and Vin Diesel are advancing development on the next installment in the Fast & Furious saga, titled Fast Forever. The franchise lead offered updates on the project, calling the new screenplay the best script in the history of the film series.

Serving as a continuation of the long-running action franchise, the upcoming project aims to build upon the storyline centered around Dominic Toretto and his core crew. While specific narrative details and plot points remain under wraps, Diesel emphasized the strength and quality of the writing as development progresses behind the scenes. The film represents the next phase for Universal Pictures‘ flagship action property, which has spanned over two decades of theatrical releases.

In his Instagram post, Diesel teased that Fast Forever will feature narrative ties to the original 2001 film The Fast and the Furious, which returns to theaters on August 21 for its 25th anniversary. Serving as the 11th main installment following 2023’s Fast X, the project will be directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk). He wrote, “I just read the Fast Forever script by Mike Leslie. It is the best script I have read in decades. I am still crying…”

The screenplay was written by Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), who completed a rewrite of an earlier script penned by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean. The story picks up after the events of Fast X, which grossed $704 million USD globally and ended on a cliffhanger teasing the returns of Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson.

Fast Forever is set to release in theaters March 17, 2028.
