Hailey Bieber may be the poster child for Pilates, but it seems the model, entrepaneur, and mother has gone in on a new form of fitness this summer: The weighted vest. In a snap shared with her 58 million Instagram followers (roughly equal to the population of Italy, for context), Bieber poses wearing a weighted vest and individual glute bands around each thigh.
Likely part of her strength training routine, weighted vests like Bieber’s are a brilliant upgrade to help build muscle, improve bone density, increase calorie burn, and boost cardiovascular capabilities. In short, it makes adding extra weight to your workout—and thus making it more challenging—that bit easier.
Bieber appears to have been working with personal trainer Kirsty Godso ever since her pregnancy in 2024, with the star sharing behind-the-scenes snaps of them in session. Godso, who also trains the likes of Kaia Gerber, regularly posts videos of strength training workouts and functional exercises on social media, from barbell hip thrusts to unilateral cable machine moves, glute thrusts to lunges.
As for the bands Bieber has on, they seem to be individual blood flow restriction bands—also known as “occlusion bands,” designed to be worn high on the thigh and safely restrict blood flow to the glute muscles. Doing this can promote quicker muscle hypertrophy (muscle growth), and make the muscle appear fuller more quickly.
The combination of the weighted vests and bands suggests Bieber is working on some serious lower-body gains. A shrewd move, as a strong lower body can help with balance, power, posture, and bone density. Also, because the largest muscles in the body are found in the legs and glutes, training them regularly can help with everything from walking to climbing stairs. Throw in Bieber’s other activities—such as her beloved Pilates and hiking—and the Rhode founder has a brilliantly well-rounded workout routine.
