‘¡Que Viva la Bachata!’ Romeo Santos & Prince Royce Celebrate the Genre in Front of 54,000 Fans in Madrid

Romeo Santos and Prince Royce brought their Mejor Tarde Que Nunca Tour to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in Madrid on Saturday (July 25), delivering a two-hour concert that balanced tracks from Better Late Than Never, the pair’s first joint album, with some of the biggest hits from their individual careers.

With two large vertical screens, a platform that extended across the front of the stage and a live band, the New York-born Dominican stars showcased their friendship and chemistry throughout the night — a connection that was evident in a well-curated setlist that alternated their new hits, such as “Better Late Than Never,” “Dardos” and “Ay! San Miguel,” with classics like “La Diabla,” “Recházame” and “La Carretera.”

“Madrid, how beautiful tonight is,” Santos said as he welcomed the crowd, expressing gratitude to those who had waited hours to enter the venue. “If anyone has problems or stress, just like some of us, leave them at home because we came here to dance, sing, jump and enjoy ourselves.”

From that moment on, both artists shared the stage constantly. When one took the lead on a song, the other provided backup vocals, danced or interacted with the band, further emphasizing the camaraderie they maintained throughout the performance.

The rendition of “Menor” led to one of the most anticipated moments of the concert: inviting a fan from the audience to join them on stage and sing. After a first attempt that didn’t quite hit the mark, a second fan took over and won the crowd’s applause.

As the show neared its end, a food cart resembling the traditional chimi stands of the Dominican Republic appeared onstage, doubling as a DJ booth; chimis — a type of meat sandwich — are a staple of Dominican street food. From this setup, the opening chords of some of Aventura’s biggest hits began to play, with the audience singing along from start to finish.

“Are there any adventurers here tonight?” Santos asked before launching into “Dile al Amor.”

With a toast of rum, Santos and Royce began calling out different Latin American countries, as flags waved proudly in the crowd. “¡Que viva la bachata!” they exclaimed, celebrating the genre that originated in the Dominican Republic and eliciting one of the loudest ovations of the night.

Shortly after, an all-terrain vehicle appeared on stage, with Santos in the driver’s seat and Royce as his co-pilot, to perform “Darte un Beso” and “Propuesta Indecente.” These two hits served as the perfect finale to a night where the Metropolitano vibrated and danced nonstop.

Following their stop in Madrid, the Mejor Tarde Que Nunca Tour will continue across Spain with shows in A Coruña, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Santander, before heading to Mexico and other countries in Central and South America.
