"It's not the act that hurts you," the podcaster said. "It's the lies."
Bunnie Xo has shared some insights into her views on marriage and infidelity following her divorce from Jelly Roll in a new episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast, featuring guest Denise Richards.
The installment posted Monday (Aug. 3) mostly focused on the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star’s life and challenges, from the breakdown of her marriage to ex-husband Charlie Sheen to her ongoing legal proceedings with estranged second husband, Aaron Phypers. Richards alleges that Phypers was physically, emotionally and financially abusive toward her after they tied the knot in 2018, expressing on the podcast how exhausting the divorce process has been for her. (He has denied her allegations of abuse while testifying in court.)
“I will never get married again,” Richards told Bunnie, who emphatically replied: “No, me either. I can’t do it. I will never.”
The podcaster also commented on the speculation surrounding high-profile breakups, including her own split from the musician. “The only people who know what’s going on inside of a divorce or a relationship, no matter how public they are, is the two people that are in it,” Bunnie said. “All these other narratives that are created are not real, and people need to stop believing headlines. It’s just not what it is.”
Jelly — whose Billboard chart history includes 22 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 — filed for divorce in May after nearly 10 years of marriage, news that only became public in June. Bunnie recorded an episode of her podcast shortly afterward catching fans up to speed, revealing that she and the country star had gotten into a fight on Mother’s Day that led to her daring Jelly to file divorce papers, not anticipating that he’d take her seriously.
“Was this divorce mutual? No, it was not mutual … I was speaking out of anger and just frustration,” she said at the time. “But was it necessary for us to have a wake-up call? … Absolutely.”
In the since-deleted episode, Bunnie also revealed that she and Jelly are planning to continue their IVF journey in the hopes of welcoming a child as platonic co-parents, emphasizing that she and her ex will always be “best friends” (though it appears that the two stars are no longer following each other on Instagram.) Both parties have emphasized that infidelity played no part in their divorce — which was reportedly finalized in July — however, the former couple has been open in the past as well about Jelly cheating on her early on in their marriage.
“One of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife,” the Grammy winner said in an October 2025 appearance on the Human School podcast. “Because it was the first time that I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all. I know I’m in love with this woman.’”
On the new podcast episode with Richards, Bunnie looked back on that time from her perspective. “When I had gone through a situation with an affair, it’s not the act that hurts you,” she said. “It’s the lies. It’s like whiplash, and the people who are involved in it — it’s slimy. Betrayal trauma literally, it rewires your brain to not trust people, to just feel disgusting, because you’re the last to know. It’s a different kind of hurt.”
The comment echoes what Bunnie shared in her 2026 memoir, Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic, in which she detailed how Jelly’s affair had lasted 10 months and involved one of his exes. “I’m not going to pretend that we just went back to normal,” she wrote at the time. “It would take years for me to put the affair aside. It would take years to actually feel like this man loved me — that I wasn’t disposable.”
