The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that John Galliano will be the subject of its spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition

Titled John Galliano Horizons the exhibition marks the first major museum retrospective examining the full breadth of his four-decade career

The show will be on view at The Met Fifth Avenue from May 9 2027 through January 9 2028

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has officially announced that John Galliano will be the subject of its landmark Spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition as well as the Met Gala, titled John Galliano: Horizons. Galliano becomes only the third living designer in history to receive a solo exhibition at The Met, following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 and Rei Kawakubo in 2017.

Curated by Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, the retrospective spans Galliano’s career from his 1984 Central Saint Martins graduation collection through his celebrated tenures at Givenchy, Christian Dior, and Maison Margiela. Drawing heavily from The Costume Institute’s extensive archives, the exhibition features garments, accessories, sketches, research books, toiles, and culminates with his Spring/Summer 2024 Maison Margiela Artisanal presentation.

The curation is organized into three distinct thematic sections: “Bearings,” “Horizons,” and “Atlas of Transformation.” In addition to showcasing his technical mastery and artistic vision, the opening section “Bearings” will directly examine his 2010 and 2011 conduct, his dismissal from Dior, and the ongoing cultural dialogue surrounding accountability and legacy.

John Galliano: Horizons will serve as the centerpiece for the 2027 Met Gala and will be open to the public at The Met Fifth Avenue from May 9, 2027 through January 9, 2028.
