The Beautiful Game Turns Dinner into a Must-See Moment

Taking the pitch Saturday night, thanks to Visa, we joined Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers for a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

The Story

There is a strong case to be made that this is the biggest summer for sports in New York City’s history — unless I’m forgetting another time when two historic sporting spectacles occurred in immediate succession.

In the midst of multiple heat waves, we watched faces from across the globe flood into the American metropolis to witness their fellow countrymen compete for the chance to be crowned champions of the FIFA World Cup 26™ — an honor only up for grabs every four years. Days before the final face-off between Argentina and Spain, Visa, a FIFA Partner, hooked up an exclusive group of Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers with an unforgettable experience that took the typical “match day” meal to a whole new level.

Leading guests through the FIFA World Cup 2026™ New York New Jersey Stadium, the select crowd was escorted through corridors normally reserved for your favorite athletes just before game time. Guided into the locker room-turned-cocktail lounge, attendees sipped custom cocktails as they mingled, exchanging their favorite moments from the tournament thus far. Just as the energy in the room began to loosen, a booming crescendo of percussion instruments reverberated within the space as a drumline signaled it was time to take the field.

Following the processional drummers, the group marched down a path that emerged through a wide passageway, revealing the soon-to-be center of the soccer universe right before the astounded cardmembers’ eyes.

There was an air of anticipation about the stadium — a solemn silence that one could easily envision being shattered by tens of thousands of roaring fans. The pitch itself — pristinely manicured, only to soon be torn up in pursuit of glory. This was the backdrop for a one-of-a-kind culinary showcase, swapping out game-winning goals for gourmet dishes.

Continuing to their seats, guests took their places at a long, ornately decorated table situated on the perimeter of the field. Once everyone had settled in, football legend Patrick Vieira took the stage to share a few words and officially begin the night.

“I was lucky enough to play and win a FIFA World Cup™ final in 1998. So, I understand how special this is,” Vieira shared. “Visa and Chase Sapphire have outdone themselves with this one.”

As one titan of his respective industry walked off, another swiftly replaced him. David Chang of Momofuku fame took his moment to address the crowd and break down the evening’s curated menu. Leading the three-course lineup was a spread of appetizers including crudité, Benton’s ham, and a tomato-and-tofu dish, followed by Korean-style sashimi Hoe-deopbap and a Maine lobster salad. For the third course, Chang reimagined his mother’s staple short rib recipe into a Michelin-worthy entreé fit for the occasion. Rounding out the meal, Chang’s team prepared a caramelized white chocolate tart to add a sweet finish to a world-class-level spread.

Between bites and the swift swapping of plates, the Sainted Trap Choir subbed in for their moment, performing an extraordinary medley of classic hits spanning musical eras.

Soon, the sun dipped out of view, succeeded by an illuminating ring of stadium lights. With just the low murmurs of friendly chatter echoing across the grounds, the night came to a subtle close. Before the highly anticipated championship showdown, Visa and Chase Sapphire had made sure to leave their mark on the pitch long before either team had a chance to etch their name in history.
