SEGA Reveals Tupac as Amaru in Upcoming ‘Stranger Than Heaven’ Game

During the Summer Game Fest 2026 livestream, the developers dropped a new cinematic teaser introducing Amaru, a character modeled after the likeness of late hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur.

Officially authorized by his estate, Amaru Entertainment, the digital resurrection was built strictly using archival footage and historical photographs with zero AI involvement. While specific details regarding voice acting remain unconfirmed, the estate actively supervised the project to ensure total authenticity. Snoop Dogg, who also portrays a character in the game, was heavily involved in the planning stages and helped bridge the vital connection with Tupac’s estate, adding immense cultural weight to the collaboration.

The title, which has already established an immense narrative pedigree by featuring high-profile appearances from Snoop Dogg, Dean Fujioka and Tori Kelly, pivots around a gritty, heavily atmospheric period piece set against historical underworld themes. Serving as an ambitious prequel to the Yakuza: Like a Dragon series, Stranger Than Heaven promises to take players across multiple eras in Japan, seamlessly weaving legendary hip-hop icons into a narrative that redefines the boundaries of interactive storytelling. Stranger Than Heaven is officially set to release on January 15, 2027, launching simultaneously across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, with pre-orders and wishlisting now live.
